Come on, let’s twist again!

At this years “Dreh und Trink” tournament we literally wanted to make the participants twist and drink!
On the 19th and 20th of June, 16 teams with around 200 players from Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Croatia could show how they can twist their discs on the fields, and their bodies on the dancefloor.
A rural scenery, with vineyards next to the well-prepared fields provided a nice playing atmosphere!
Cloudy, but rainless weather allowed exciting and good-spirited games. The sporadic upcoming sun was a welcomed change and let the heap of empty “Twist and Drink” bottles quickly increase!
With a Barbecue, a Saturday-Night Party, a Beer-race, “Twist and Drinks” for free, regional wine and a selected music-line we tried to provide an enjoyable sports-event!

Friday – BBQ, Preparation, Warming Up

The first players arrived on Friday evening, while we were still busy with the preparation of the tournament. While we were setting up the music-equipment, hanging up banner-ads and preparing the breakfast for the next day, the players were building up their tents. The rest of the evening was used to have a barbecue, to taste the first glasses of wine and to throw some discs at the fields. Due to the upcoming rain at that night, the expections for a nice weather at the weekend were not that high. Luckily the apprehension proved wrong!

Saturday

After the captains meeting at 8:30 am, and following a hearty breakfast, the first Pool-games of the tournament started!

The strong playing FDK Zagreb dominated against Catchup (12:2), won clearly the game against Chuck Bronson 8:4, and won a bit lucky against Spin 7:6.
Also the Soul Grinogs could achieve clear pool-game results. They won 12:2 against Slovak Junior I, 10:5 against U23 Mixed, and 12 : 6 against Schleudertraum.
A bit unlucky were the Pool games for Chuck Bronson , who have lost all 3 games, 2 of them by one point!
Strong playing Schleudertraum could achieve their first 7vs7 victory against U23-mixed, but lost a bit unlucky against Slovak Junior II 5:6.
Velka Morava (1st) and Innshut (2nd) who played against each other in the finals, have had their first encounter in the pool games. Velka Morava also won that game lucky 8:7. (in the Finals 8:2)
The tournament start didn’t turn out well for Dreh und Trink. We have lost clearly agaist Slovak Junior I 12:3, and 8:6 against Flying Circus. Fortunatly we managed to recover, so we could stop the Lokomotive Stolichnaya 10 : 6.

Dinner and Party

After the matches, dinner was served in the nearby Kolping house. Schnitzel, spaghetti, turkey, salads, croquettes, french fries, etc., were brought by the servants of the Kolpinghouse, and immediatly disappeared in the stomaches of 200 more than starving Ultimate players.

Although we told them, that they have to expect reeaaally hungry players, they were surprised of how much food Ultimate Players can eat!

With fully satisfied hunger, the only thing that we had to deal with, was the player’s thirsts!
Our shot bar, where we served Stolichnaya-Twist&Drink Shots and the beer race, were the right things to solve this issue too!

The Beerrace was actually not a race, but a throwing contest. The blindfolded participators had to hit a marked spot on the floor. Rewarded or penalised with Stolichnaya shots, the winners had to conquer each other in the next round, the handstand round. As “Upside down” is familiar to Ultimate players, it was no problem for the Ultimate beer-race-participants, to pass this round with flying colours! However the alcohol-proved players of Mosquitos, managed to empty the with beer filled frisbees the quickest from all teams!

Immediatly rewarded with excellent wine (and later with Stolichnaya and “Twist and Drink”-bottles), the party could continue for the Mosquitos and all other players. Phil (Chuck Bronson) featured an excellent DJ and made the people dance and shake on the dancefloor until the morning hours!

Sunday

The first game on Sunday is always the most difficult one. Especially for Dreh und Trink – players! FDK Zagreb had the honor to play this game against us. Although there were nervousness and many mistakes on both sides, FDK Zagreb could soon gain more points and won finally clearly (7:2). At the same time Soul Gringos played against Innshut (4: 6) and Mosquitos against U23-mixed (7:2). Our next game didn’t turn out to be that succesfull either. We had no chance against Soul Gringos and lost 5:13.
Fortunatly we could decide the last game for us. We won against U23 without any problems (12:6). The Sunday games went good for Chuck Bronson. Both games were victories for the men and women in black and gold. (against Slovak Junior II (9:6), and against Catchup (14:7)) Unfortunatly it only sufficed for the 13th place of the tournament!

The Finals

Velka Morava and Innshut, who have played already in the pool games, faced each other again in the finale. This time the final score was more clear. The Czech Team won 8:2 and was therefore the winner of the Poys & Girls Twist & Drink Championship 2010! Congratulations!

The Winning-Ceremony

After the laudatory speeches from Mag. Karl Wilfing, the mayor of Poysdorf and our chairman Daniel, the final ranking was announced and the prizes were handed over to the teams.

Footballs were given to the SC Poysdorf, to say thank you for the help during the tournament.
Each Ultimate team got wine-bottles and “Dreh und Trink”-trophies!
For the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rank we could hand over bags filled with T-shirts, Hoodies, DVDs and Mini-Basketball-sets.
The Winner, Velka Morava got an additional prize, that suited to the tournament:
a Twister-game! (what else?)

For this years Spirit-award GAIA made us a special offer:
Each Player of the SOTG-Winning team (Schleudertraum) will get his own Spirit-disc, which was especially designed for the spirit-award! Symbolically we handed over a Spirit-disc to the whole team!
